THIS SHIP HAS SAILED (Room 404)

Old family names on old family graves.

Pictures burned yellow with years.

Frozen in time, these people of mine.

Heads thrown back laughing together.

But this ship has sailed.

This ship has sailed.

Like the moon disappears in the trees.

It’s the ocean you’ll see if you’re looking for me.

Cause this ship has sailed away.

The house from my childhood still stands in the field.

Like it stood when my father was young.

Through the freezes and heat the old stone and peat,

never moved but in an inch in a century.

But this ship has sailed.

This ship has sailed.

Like the clouds come apart in the breeze.

It’s the ocean you’ll see if you’re looking for me.

Cause this ship has sailed away.

We moved from the country like thieves in the dark.

Away from my school and my friends.

But the old days stayed strong, and now thirty years on,

I’ve never been back here since then.

And I’m lost in my head till I get enough drink.

Then the past sometimes leaves me alone.

Some things inside you will never let go.

Some things just stick in your bones.

But this ship has sailed.

This ship has sailed.

Like the sun hissing into the sea.

It’s the ocean you’ll see if you’re looking for me.

Cause this ship has sailed away.

This ship has sailed away.

This ship has sailed away.
