MIDNIGHT MISSION

He waits inside his room for the night to come down.

Leaning on the doorframe. Listening to his small town.

His eyes have shown him something that he can’t explain away.

There he is with his heart thumping in the last light of the day.

Tell you what he’s going to do now. While the folks are sleeping.

Tip toes and a spy glass. Good friendly creeping.

His head feels like a tube amp. Full of all the blood and hiss.

He read a joke on a bathroom wall once. It reminded him of this.

And all these narrow minds come down on me.

And never offer any sympathy.

Feels like summer rain against my face.

I feel alive inside this space.

On my midnight mission.

On my midnight mission.

The young man had the devil inside him. The devil had him in a gunnysack.

But the thrills got much less thrilling. So he figured how to get them back.

Here’s a bedtime story for you. About a boy with a quiet stare.

Now he peers straight through the peephole as they drag him to the chair.

And all these narrow minds come down on me.

And never offer any sympathy.

Feels like summer rain against my face.

I feel alive inside this space.

On my midnight mission.

On my midnight mission.
