ARROW
We slid down the gravel and the snow was like spilt milk.
At 6am my toes were numb. My soul was wrapped in silk.
The train was late as usual. The signals all went out.
The kid stopped kicking at my chair just long enough to shout.
Keep an arrow. I keep an arrow.
I stood as still as iron with the red sun at my back.
I stayed downwind from animals and waited to attack.
My eyes stare straight ahead of me my feet don’t make a sound.
A rustle in the bushes, and I strike and bring it down.
Keep an arrow. I keep an arrow.
I work my body ragged and I leave a skeleton.
Put money on the table. Never question what I’ve done.
Today I got the message. The word came through the wire.
Now I draw the bow back. My mind is black and fire.
Keep an arrow. I keep an arrow.
I keep an arrow. I keep an arrow
