I HOPE I’M WRONG
Holding on to this red thread,
with you on the other end.
And the space between us, deep and black.
Once I had a perfect life,
Sunny blue skies all the time.
Should've felt the omens at my back.
Panic thunders in my veins.
As I do my best to explain that I’m probably right.
But I hope I’m wrong.
When the music played like this.
When you leaned in for a kiss.
When our bodies moved while our minds just dreamed.
When the hungry dog won’t bite.
When the meanest drunk won’t fight.
And a collar knot dangles from a beam.
Panic thunders in my veins.
As I do my best to explain that I’m probably right.
But I hope I’m wrong.
I know how you talk, but keep this underneath your hat.
Maybe someone else, but you’d never do a thing like that.
I’m in a fix. I’m in a spot.
Precious is the rage I’ve got.
And obsequescence in my trembling hands.
Panic thunders in my veins.
As I do my best to explain that I’m probably right.
Yes, I'm probably right.
I'm probably right.
But I hope I’m wrong.
