STUPID BRAIN

Put down the telephone. Watch the sky turn deeper grey.

Hadn’t heard a word from you in all the years you’d been away.

You know my secrets and you saw me make my worst mistakes.

Inside the church at night. Another time, another place.

Another time, another place.

Just like it was before. I throw off my furrowed brow.

Lead me across the line. Now I can’t remember how.

Candles. Mirrored pools. Incantations in the wind.

And then it all seems right, like nothing could be wrong again.

Like nothing could be wrong again.

You come into my life like something dark across the sun.

And I can’t say no. Though I know that I should run.

Cause when you’re around everything sounds like a good idea.

When you’re around I lose all my common sense.

It’s like I’m graced by your presence and my stupid brain can’t think straight anymore.

I soaked the rag in gasoline. I lit the match, we ran away.

Fire touched the stars.

The morning kicked me hard. Woke to pounding on the door.

You were nowhere to be seen. Exactly like it was before.

Exactly like it was before.

You come into my life like something dark across the sun.

And I can’t say no. Though I know what you have done.

Cause when you’re around everything sounds like a good idea.

When you’re around I lose all my common sense.

It’s like I’m graced by your presence and my stupid brain can’t think straight.

It’s like I’m graced by your presence and my stupid brain can’t think straight anymore.

Anymore. Anymore.
